Jonathan Tester, born 21 August 1956 in Havre, Montana, is an American Democratic politician and the current junior Senator from Montana. He has represented Montana in the US Senate since January 2007 after defeating the incumbent Senator Conrad Burns in the 2006 midterm elections. His victory margin was 3563 votes.

Tester grew up in Chouteau County near the town of Big Sandy. Jeff Ament of the band Pearl Jam happens to have the same home region as Tester; the band played a concert in Missoula to support Tester's campaign.

Tester is an organic farmer. While the Tester family slaughterhouse played a role in family finances when Tester worked there as a young man, it is now the slaughterhouse only to close friends' and relatives' needs. As a child Tester lost three fingers on his left hand in an accident with a meat grinder.

He has a degree in musicology from the University of Great Falls and worked a short time as a music teacher in Big Sandy School District.

Jon and Sharla Tester have two children: daughter Christine and son Shon.

Before Tester became a member of the U.S. Senate, he was a member of the Montana state Senate 1999-2006, and was its President 2005-2006.
