"Here begins our tale. The empire, long divided, must unite; long united, must divide. Thus it has ever been." - Three Kingdoms

For time out of mind, the Empire of the Dragon has protected the people of the Twelve Kingdoms from the barbarians to the north, and the mysterious dark chi of the peoples to the south. So long as the Great Wall has stood, the Dragon army has been ready to meet any threat, and the people have lived in peace.

But times change, as they must, and now the Dragon army looks inward from the Wall, towards threats of treason within the Twelve Kingdoms themselves. As the regency council struggles to keep the empire together, the voices in the street that call for reform are quickly silenced.

This trouble within is mirrored without, as those who have fallen before the Wall are stirring, and it is rumored that even the dead walk in the lands beyond, animated by terrible powers, preparing for their final siege against the Five Temples and the people of the Dragon.

Those brave enough to speak out wonder if even the Dragon himself could reverse the fortune of his people. Others chide them for believing in ancient myths when catastrophe is so close at hand.

On the peaceful island of the Butterfly Kingdom, smallest of the Twelve Kingdoms, such dark rumors seem to speak of faraway, implausible things - but even the flap of a butterfly's wings can change the world.
