Drink and cheer experiment

  • Write up six differing versions of the drink and cheer. Vary them more than "a different thing to shout" for each. :)
    • Shen-Ji: "To the spirit that will watch over this place!"; throw the cup into the air and shoot it with an Iron Arrow (Sorcery skill)
    • Cai Wen: "We dance to celebrate the spirit of fire!"; do a quick and lively dance without spilling the tea (Dance skill)
    • Takanata: A spontaneous poem recited while drinking the tea; the poem and tea should be finished at the same time (Poetry skill)
    • Wei Han: A drunken soldier cheer while celebrating (Carousing)
    • Kasumi:
    • Hana: A version of Roy Batty's death speech (Acting)
  • Light the brazier to make the tea and candles to provide light, channeling the Yang (6 successes Magic Ritual)
    • Shen-Ji: 8 successes
  • Have six different people do the versions, using Charisma and Tea Ceremonies and any other applicable skills based on what else you put in that version. (i.e. if it involves "throwing the cup into the corner to break", Precision Throwing can be included). 6 successes are needed for each.
    • Shen-Ji: 10 successes (threw in 5 fortune)
    • Cai Wen: 6 successes
    • Takanata:
    • Wei Han: 6 successes
    • Kasumi:
    • Hana: 9 successes
  • After each person leaves the tea tent, close your eyes and sit, perceiving the atmosphere and channeling the Yin (6 successes with Magic Ritual and Chi Mastery and Perception) to sense the chi of the area. Let the celebratory chi dampen down before having the next person do a version. (All rolled by Shen-Ji)

Fenjui experiment

>Spend a few li buying fancy brands of fenjui, and name / label them.

4 li spent.

  • Golden Dragon
  • White Sky
  • Blazing Water
  • Sparkling Star
  • Heavenly Gate of Pearls
  • Smoothest Silk Spread Across the Fruited Plain

>Taste each yourself first (6 successes on a Wits roll with food/perception skill).

Throwing in two dice of fortune (Yin/Chi) to each roll:

Successes: 7, 5, 6, 6, 5, 6 (Spend 2 Chi to make up the shortages)

>Light six stands (invoke the Yang, 6 Magic Ritual).

Successes: 6, 7, 8, 5, 7, 7 (Spend 1 Chi to make up the shortages)

>For each, heat, and then light on fire. Bring in six people - have them wander around, and pick the one that they think smells most like celebration, and the one that they think casts the most joyful light. Each must make two per rolls, to be added together. You want at least 2, at least 4, at least 6, at least 8, at least 10, and at least 12, among the 6.

  • Cai Wen: 6 + 4 = 10
  • Anto: 5+ 5 = 10
  • Min Feng: 7+ 7 + 14
  • Xiao Fa: 5+ 4 = 9
  • Grasshopper: 3 + 3 = 6
  • Master Zhou: 6 + 5 = 11

So, Cai Wen and Master Zhou think that Smoothest Silk Spread Across the Fruited Plain smells the most like celebration, while Anto and Xiao favor Heavenly Gate of Pearls. Min Feng votes for Golden Dragon, while Grasshopper thinks Blazing Water is the best for celebration.

For most joyful light, Cai Wen and Xiao Fa think Sparkling Star is the best, while Anto and Master Zhou vote for Heavenly Gate of Pearls. Mi Feng still likes Golden Dragon, and Grasshopper still likes Blazing Water.

Overall, Heavenly Gate of Pearls gets the most overall votes. (Determinations made by taking rolls mod 6 and consulting the list in order.)

>Have each person extinguish a flame which is not their favorite, while you channel the Yin (6 successes Magic Ritual), and also requires that everyone involved make a Tao roll for luck and not get zero. (Zero successes means that some flames don't get blown out).

Yin and Tao rolls:

  • Cai Wen: 1, Me: Yin: 6, Tao: 2
  • Anto: 2, Me: Yin: 6, Tao: 3
  • Min Feng: 2, Me: Yin: 5, Tao: 2 (spend 1 Chi)
    • (Down to 4 Tao at this point here)
  • Xiao Fa: 3, Me: Yin: 6, Tao: 1
  • Grasshopper: 0 (+1 Chi spent), Me: Yin: 6, Tao: 1
  • Master Zhou: 1, Me: Yin: 6, Tao: 1
