Short for Mahasamatman, a Southern God of light? He tends to be benevolent to the party, following rules and trying to prevent the likes of Kali and other Southerners from messing with the Empire too much. He has a priest who is native born in the Empire, Lu Chu, Shen-Ji's sister-in-law, so he can travel freely to the Empire, unlike most of the Southern Gods. When he does show up in the Empire, it is sometimes in long white robes with a yellow sash. Sometimes with a big hat that obscures his identity quite completely.
