- Kuan-Xi: princess, water sorcerer, and a member of the House of Melody in the Song of the Phoenix. Formerly betrothed to Minoru Katsu.
- Kuan-Xi's mother, who is formidable enough that she should have a name and a page of her own.
- Kuan-Xi's father, who is quiet and scholarly.
- Suzuki Jiro, a scholar and lesser contender to be the next Firelord.
- Suzuki Yori, known as a clever man, and a lesser contender to be the next Firelord.
- Suzuki Tamiyo (aka Sogato Rei), Kuan-Xi's aunt, who died almost 20 years ago leaving a daughter, Long Yue-Mei. Her adventures are discussed in Triads.
