  • What's the ordering for the days of the "week"? What's the ordering for the months?
    • It's always the same order: Cycle. Monkey is always after Tortoise, Bear is always after Magpie, and so on. --Boojum 16:19, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

Oh, my aching head. Years that aren't years, names which are used for both weekdays and month names. No wonder we hire astrologers for this. --Shen Wei Han 16:05, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

  • You're going to generate an actual calendar for the first year, yes? he asked hopefully...--Eon 21:37, 24 March 2009 (EDT)
  • So the actual calendar would look like this? --Shen Wei Han 23:56, 24 March 2009 (EDT) (I figure the GMs will make a link from the calendar page itself if I got it right)
    • Oh, lovely! Yes, that's just what it looks like. :) --Boojum 09:22, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
  • So, 13*25 = 325 day year. It sounds like the Empire has been around long enough that an actual solar year is in fact so close to (or exactly) 325 days such that there is no need for leap days, correct? -Derrick
    • That which you are calling "a solar year", we are calling "four seasons", and is actually 12*25=300 days. But that's close enough to exact that there's no need for leap days. --Boojum 11:43, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
    • Er, in case it isn't clear, the seasons listed in the Cycle are the real seasons that those months go in. --Boojum 11:46, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
    • Oh, so the start of the year rotates through the seasons then. Bizarre, but now I understand. -Derrick
  • May I recommend Month of Fox Rising and Month of Fox Descending for first and second Fox months, respectively? --Eon 15:26, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
    • Friendly amendment accepted! (Do you have suggestions for elegant names for the first/second/third day as well? Possibly also Ascending (1), Descending (2), and something else (3).
    • I like the idea of, within in the month, Early and Late for the first and last weekday in a month, and Middle for the extra day in the middle of the month. So the days of the Month of Fox Rising are Early Fox, Early Spider, Early Magpie, etc until Early Serpent. Then Middle Fox. Then Late Spider, Late Magpie, etc. with the final day being Late Fox. Perhaps there are better words than Early, Late, and Middle. --Shen Wei Han 16:17, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
    • I kind of like Early and Late, actually, although I would call Middle Fox of Fox Ascending Day of the Rising Fox and Middle Fox of Fox Descending Day of the Falling Fox. Heck, then the Middle day can in general just be called Day of the X. Then every cycle animal can have one day a year, with that year's cycle animal getting an ascending and a descending day. Heck, instead of ascending and descending, they could be suitable Yang descriptor and suitable Yin descriptor. Fox's could be, for example, leaping and lazy.--Eon 09:36, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
