I would also like to see surprises.  Things nobody asked for because nobody knew about them.  I don't think I would enjoy it if people started saying "where's the list... aha, this looks like plot #3." --[[User:Ringrose|Ringrose]] 02:45, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Revision as of 22:45, 6 July 2012

There is apparently some confusion about how enthusiastic you have to be about a plot to put your name beside it. The thing that the GMs are looking for here is not "Which plots have someone who is really enthusiastic about doing it", but "Which plots do a majority - or even a plurality - of the run think are a good idea to do?". --Boojum 21:04, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

I have no objection to "Lego Mechanic" and "Interact more with spirits/demons", but I think those are activities, not plots. (At least, the Lego Mechanic is not a plot until we've seen a Lego Mechanic.) --Fearless 14:00, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

What if we split the page into "things we want to do" and "mechanics we like"? Or do the GMs think they already have a good sense what the players like there. --Ringrose 15:16, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

I had been assuming this is a sort of suggestion list for future runs, and that we don't have to explicitly put "stop Spider from destroying the cycle" or "pay my debt to my schtick source" on this list in order to have those things possibly happen in runs. Correct me if I'm wrong! --HeidiB 15:37, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

You're correct, Heidi. We have a list where we track "people's personal plots" and "stuff we think people like" (though we do sometimes neglect it). On the other side of things, "Stop Spider" is something that the party will need to figure out smaller sub-goals to pursue; people's ideas towards those smaller sub-goals are more what I'm looking to have listed. My intentions with this particular page are:

  1. There are many things that one or more people are keen to do, that we aren't sure that the party as a whole is keen to do it (for example "kill the metal elemental in the Treasury", "Put Horse in the Cycle"). We don't want to have a run to do something that is unpopular, because we were kind of traumatized by the Steal the Magpie Talisman run.
  2. There are some things that we think the party would happily do if dropped in their lap, but nobody is making a plan for how to do so. This is a place to try to get people to intentionally declare "We should do this!" on the theory that then they can try to make some plans towards that outcome. We're happy to put in runs to implement an unfinished plan (like "have a party to convince the army leaders to talk to each other"), but some of that intentionality needs to be player-driven. The Monkey talisman fell in your lap; the Tortoise talisman probably won't.

So - the things I'm looking for are consensus and intentionality. That sounds way too buzzwordy, so how about "What specific missions do people think the party needs to be working on that they aren't already?"

Anyway, along those lines, I'll put Lego Mechanic and Interact with Spirits and Demons on the GM list tracking things people like. If there's a particular spirit plot or demon plot or such that Kurgan/Anto thinks the party should be actively pursuing that it isn't (i.e. "Talk to Horse about how making a long term deal would work" or "Look for the Dragon Key in the World Below" then that's the sort of thing we're looking for (and if it's something nobody is pursuing, that's something that Anto could instigate)). "Defend from Invaders", like "Pay my debts" and "Stop Spider from destroying the cycle" is something that we assume that people are all on board with, so we don't really need to ask about consensus there. We've been doing lots of runs about defending from invaders already, and since they're driven by NPCs doing bad things, they don't really need a PC to be taking point on how to plan them. Rob, is there a particular invader defense idea that isn't being pursued that you're looking for, or did you mean "I like defending-against-invaders runs and please have more of them when you can?" in which case I'll move that one to the GM "keep in mind" page too. --Boojum 17:11, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
