Perhaps Kuan-Xi has been imprisoned by the Formerly Great Spirit of the Whale. Think about it. The Whale Spirit has every reason to be annoyed with Phoenices, and besides that, she was somehow getting from the mainland to an island in a carriage, which is Just Not Right. Perhaps the Whale said, "OK, as if kicking me out of the cycle wasn't enough, now you choose to taunt me with Phoenices riding extra-dimensional carriages over open water.
